A month ago The Impossibility Theory Fund put out the challenge for kids to tell us who deserved a copy of the book. I made a visit out to the group at Windsor Secondary to meet our new special friend, Daniel. His Mom, Liana entered her son in the contest. Daniel is great boy doing everything to keep fighting at the challenges in his life.
Daniel is also a HUGE Canucks fan and the visit from Fin went a long way.
While the contest is over, please do not hesitate to send your notes of who should deserve a copy of the book. Our goal is to reach as many kids as possible.
One Sunday, June 6th I went out into the community to help two great causes. Firstly, he started the day by being one of the guest “Authors” at the Sharing-Books sponsored events for Room-to-Read. What a wonderful experience to see firsthand the power of books.
Secondly, I went out to Burnaby to attend a Kelsan who is using my experience as their message to ride the BC Ride to Conquer Cancer event this weekend. It was another great event to see the power of books and meet the many people who have inspired, but never met.
Good luck to Brian and Kevin on your ride! (As well as our own Johnathon Strebly who is also taking part in this event!)
Greetings everyone! I wanted to share another shining example of how people not only support our fund, but go out of their way to take on their own challenges to help the fight against cancer.
My brother-in-law Johnathon will be participating in the 2010 Ride to Conquer Cancer. The Ride to Conquer Cancer benefiting the BC Cancer Foundation, is a two-day cycling journey from Vancouver to Seattle, taking place on June 19-20th, 2010. Johnathon hopes to raise at least $5000.00, and is half way to reaching his fundraising goal. The Ride to Conquer Cancer will support breakthrough research, exemplary teaching, and compassionate care made possible through the BC Cancer Foundation. Please take a look at John’s Ride to Conquer Cancer webpage and contribute to his journey by making a donation. Johnathon is an endurance fitness zen-master and we’re so proud of him for taking on this inspiring adventure.
On Tuesday, a dear friend of my wife’s is going on a journey that we are both incredibly proud of. At the young age of 22, Lauren Brem is riding her bike from Seattle to Santa Cruz to raise money for Cancer Research. This two week journey will be grueling and beyond tiresome but from what my wife has told me about her, we both know she will take this challenge head on and complete this incredible feat. Please take a look at her website and her inspiring message. From the bottom of our hearts, Thank you Lauren!
On July 9th, 2009 Lucas Spata had the priviledge of speaking at the weekly meeting for the Rotary Club. He was able to share a little of his life story and the goals of The Impossibility Theory Fund. Following the speech, several members offered their support and made donations.
The Rotary then went further and offered Lucas the opportunity to apply for additional support which later came in the form of a dontation of $500.
A huge thank you to all the members of the Rotary Club of Richmond Sunrise!

January 17, 2009. Last Saturday, The Impossibility Theory Fund was able to take part in the annual Canucks Place Skate Day. This is a special event where Canucks players join the brave children and their families from Canucks Place on the ice of GM Place for a much needed day of fun. (See canucksplace.org for more information on these inspirational children) The Impossibility Theory Fund was involved through the donation of copies of “Philmore, Xebob and The Impossibility Theory” to five special families. In addition, Megan Mitchell (wife of Canucks player Willie Mitchell and Board Member with the Canucks for Kids Fund) took time out to read the first chapter of the book to select audience before the skate.
The Canucks have been a tremendous supporter of both Lucas and his efforts in this project. Reading the story directly to these children and hearing their “little giggles” is exactly what the this is all about. An extra promotional benefit of this event is that it was taped and portions of it could air during the Canucks Telethon Night March 15th on Rogers SportsNet.
Catch Lucas Spata on The Daily: with Mark and Laura-Lynn on December 10th, on Channel 10 CHNU channel 10 Vancouver at 10:00pm, December 11th at 6:00am, 3:00pm or on VisionTV nationally 6:00am or 2:30pm.
